Hi,
I have been offered a couple of Yamaha SR400 engines, and wondering if they would be suitable for spares to use on my XT500?
They look identical externally, and i know they use a 87mm cylinder bore.
I pressume the crankshaft is stroked different.
Any information relating to these 400cc engines would be a great help.
Is the barrel and piston the same?

Hi Dave,
the SR400-piston his higher domed to get an equal compression ratio with the shorter stroke.
Electric is very different and not easy to change. SR400 hasn't got breaker-points, the right side-cover so is different, SR400-clutch has a bigger diameter, so XT-sidecover doesn't fit in most cases.
SR400 wasn't sold here so parts and informations are hard to get. I presume in Sweden are running a few?
I am still looking for a used SR400 crankshaft, are you interested in a crank-swap?
How much is a used SR400-motor in UK?
